If you’re here for the first time, welcome. I’ve been doing these travel blog income reports since my wife and I moved to Costa Rica and launched our blog.
Blogging Money Life went live on the internet in August 2021. You can check out our original launch video for our blog below to see where we started.

What’s covered in this Blog Income Report?
In this monthly blog income report, I discuss the metrics of our social media and YouTube channels. I also cover the growth of our email list, KPIs for our website, and do a full income and expenses report for our blogging business.
Who are Jas and Chris?
Jas is an OG blogger and has been in the game for over 10 years. After graduating from college, she launched her first blog, Miss Millennia Magazine, and it’s still thriving today.
Over the past 10 years, Jas has mentored many bloggers and helped them make money online. She specializes in launching and monetizing blogs with passive income strategies, affiliate marketing, digital products, and sponsored posts.
As for me, I’m still pretty new in the blogging world. My blogging journey started in August 2022, when Jas and I launched BML out of our container home in Costa Rica.
Since I started this Blog Income and Metric Tracking Series, I have had a newfound love for analyzing data and “running the numbers.” My formal background is as a military mechanic and a custom home builder.
Jas and I decided to start Blogging Money Life to work as a couple and help new bloggers grow and monetize their own blogging businesses.

Blogging Money Life’s YouTube Channel is officially one year old this month. We have shown slow but steady growth since we published our first video in February 2021. The channel complements our blogs by driving traffic to our website and adds to our SEO when we embed our videos into blog posts.
At first glance, the chart above may seem jarring with all the red in the February column. But considering that February is a short month and has 14% fewer days than January, we can realize that growth is still on an upward trend.
For example, when I compare the average view per day in January (89 VPD) and February (85 VPD), the month’s adjusted growth rate is now -4%. Much better than -14% shown in the chart above.
A strong Instagram presence combined with the LinkInBio tool is a great way to drive traffic to your individual blog posts.
Our IG growth has been pretty stagnant for the past few months. I find it difficult to grow our following organically without publishing quality engagement posts daily.
Lately, our IG content consists only of posts announcing new content published on our blog or YoutTube channel.
Our IG grid is made up of a repeated alternating color scheme. You can check out our IG here.
Facebook has always made it easy to share blog content and drive traffic to your website. Unfortunately, I have found it hard to grow a Facebook audience organically. Without a marking budget to run Facebook campaigns, shares may go unseen.
Other than sharing our latest content with our exciting Facebook audience, we or not currently practicing a Facebook strategy.
If you would like to be among the first viewer to see our latest Living in Costa Rica videos and read our newest blog posts, check out our Facebook page here.
If you’ve been blogging for a while, you’ve probably heard the saying, “The money is in the list.” From the beginning of our blog, we have worked to grow and engage our email list.
We offer a few blogging products for free to help us grow our subscribers. Readers can download the Blog Monetization Tracker, List of 150 Sponsored Post Opportunites, and Blog Goal Worksheet to help them grow their blogs. Combined product downloads with a campaign we run with the Generous Bloggers Toolkit, our email list increases by an average of 34 subscribers each month.
The Moz Domain Authority score is found by adding their free tools to your browser.
SEMRush is a paid SEO tool we use for monitoring your site’s analytics, conducting keyword research, tracking competitors’ keyword strategies, running SEO audits, identifying backlinking opportunities, and more.
Okay. So, what’s my takeaway from for website KPI report this month? First off, I want to point out that February is a shorter month. This year, there were only 28 days in February.
I recently discovered we had Google Analytics installed in two different places on the backend of our website.
In January, this came to my attention when one of our viewers commented about our incredibly low bounce rate.
When I researched reasons a bounce rate is too low, I discovered that having Google Analytics installed in two different places on the backend could cause this.
And for the other metrics that have significantly dropped may also have been affected by the mistake on the back end of our site.
But even with a considerable drop in impressions and new users, we showed growth in our returning users. This means there are some people out there who are really enjoying our content. These readers enjoy our site enough that they continue to come back at least a couple times each month.
We plan on implementing a few more monetization strategies for our blog soon. These strategies will include affiliate marketing, adverting, and sponsored posts. Currently, besides what we earn from Google Adsense, most of our income is generated through product sales.
We have eight reoccurring expenses that total out to $97.71. We didn’t have any one-time costs this month. The only personnel expense we paid out this month was for our transcriber.
The monthly gross income is $539.20. Total monthly expenses are $147.71. We estimate our taxes and hold $86.13 aside, which leaves us with a monthly net income of $305.36
Thanks again so much for joining us. If you have something to say about this month’s report, go ahead and leave a comment below.
